The Netherlands appreciates the efforts for judicial reform in Bulgaria
The Netherlands closely monitors the progress of the judicial reform in Bulgaria and appreciates the efforts in this direction, it became clear from a telephone conversation between Prime Minister Acad. Nikolai Denkov and his Dutch counterpart, Mark Rutte, on June 22.
The Dutch Prime Minister showed detailed knowledge of the situation and showed interest in specific steps undertaken for the achievement of real rule of law in Bulgaria.
PM Acad. Denkov emphasized Bulgaria's efforts to demonstrate real results through legislative changes and as an example pointed out the adoption of a mechanism for investigating the Prosecutor General by magistrates independent of him. He presented the next steps towards changing the situation through anti-corruption legislation and the election of a new Supreme Judicial Council, outlining a time horizon of about six months for their implementation.
The Bulgarian Prime Minister underlined the sensitivity of our society on the Schengen issue and noted our country's actions on the joint pilot project with the European Commission for the prevention of illegal migration.
The Dutch Prime Minister expressed his satisfaction with the improved situation at the border between Bulgaria and Turkey and readiness for assistance in protecting it even better in the future.
