The new Sofia Municipal Council failed to elect a chair at its first sitting
New voting will be geld on November 20
The new Sofia Municipal Council failed to elect a chair on November 13. After two votings, none of the nominees gathered the necessary support of at least 31 votes.
The election started with four nominees, as GERB did not nominate a candidate.
The nominees were:
- Boris Bonev – We Continue the Change – Democratic Bulgaria (Save Sofia)
- Diana Tonova - Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP)
- Krasimir Galabov - "Vazrazhdane"
- Plamen Danailov - "There is Such a People"
At the first vote none of them gathered the necessary support. It came to a second vote, where the councillors chose between Boris Bonev and Diana Tonova.

The newly elected mayor of Sofia Vassil Terziev and the new municipal councillors took the oath of office at a ceremony earlier in the day. Terziev called on his colleagues to be wise and unite around common solutions despite political disagreements.
