TISP leader Slavi Trifonov: We will not put a draft cabinet for voting in Parliament tomorrow

Tomorrow, August 11, we will not propose a draft cabinet for voting in Parliament at all. We are going to new elections. This was stated by the leader of the "There is Such a People" party Slavi Trifonov on August 10.

It is clear that we have done everything possible, all compromises and gestures to the so-called protest parties so that they can support the government proposed by “There is Such a People” and so that people can be calm and have a government. This, however, did not happen, said Slavi Trifonov.

He described the decision of "Democratic Bulgaria" and "Rise up BG! We are Coming" not to support the draft cabinet of “There is Such a People” as a betrayal.

It was decided with absolute unanimity that we could not support TISP's proposal for a cabinet, co-chairman of "Democratic Bulgaria" Hristo Ivanov, said earlier on August 10.

From the very beginning we said that we will support only a government that can make a change and today we cannot allow our voters to be betrayed, Hristo Ivanov was firm.

From the very beginning we see indications of TISP being open to the Movement for Rights and Freedoms.

He listed policy areas that are key priorities for Democratic Bulgaria but in which TISP had no commitments, including judicial reform, the termination of Ivan Geshev’s term in office as Chief Prosecutor, constitutional reform, restructuring of the anti-corruption commission, as well as cleansing the Ministry of Interior and security services of corrupt influences.

“You cannot decide with 65 votes, on your own, what the composition of the cabinet is,” Ivanov said.

He said that TISP’s proposed government was the weakest ever nominated in Bulgaria. “The best that we can say about these people is that we do not know them,” Ivanov said.

The Bulgarian Socialist Party will not support TISP's draft cabinet if Petar Iliev’s nomination is not withdrawn. This was decided by the Political Council of the BSP for Bulgaria coalition earlier on August 10.

BSP praised the efforts of the negotiating team to reach a political agreement, but expressed reservations about the staff of the proposed Council of Ministers, and in particular about the candidacy of Petar Iliev for Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior.

As the parliamentary group of “Rise up BG! We are Coming!” said yesterday, we have made a commitment to the people from the protests that there will be a government of change, which will dismantle Borissov's one-man model and will undertake judicial reform, chair of the PG of “Rise up BG! We are Coming!”, Maya Manolova, said on August 10.

These complex tasks can be done by ministers with an indisputable professional and civic background. We do not believe that the proposed ministers meet this high standard that citizens expect, Manolova was adamant.

In addition, we insisted on signing an agreement with clear commitments and a clear, publicly stated and signed guarantee that the government will not be, figuratively speaking, a screen for backstage games, she added.

There is no dialogue and no clear commitment that the MRF and GERB will be permanently isolated from the power and governance. Therefore, our PG has decided not to support a cabinet proposed by "There is Such a People", added Manolova.

She also commented that it should be discussed whether it is possible to form a government of experts that can undertake urgent tasks such as the Sustainability and Resilience Plan, the budget update, the rise in electricity and water prices.
