Businesses are protesting against high electricity prices. Trade unions and employers are demanding urgent measures from the state to curb rising electricity prices.

Protesters gathered in downtown Sofia. Despite talks with government officials yesterday, there will be a protest against high electricity prices for businesses today, October 19. As the representatives of the employers' organisations and the trade unions said yesterday, more than 600,000 people are affected by the high electricity prices, and the request is for urgent measures by the state.

Some of these measures include compensation for those affected by high electricity prices. One of the measures under discussion is compensation in the amount of 75% of the difference between the price estimated by the energy watchdog and the price at which the electricity at the power exchange is actually traded at the moment. The estimated price by the energy regulator is BGN 119, and today the estimated price of electricity a day ahead reached BGN 481.

Workers from across the country gathered to protest. The government is expected to decide at its regular meeting tomorrow on appropriate measures to support the business.
