Vazrazhdane, TISP, BSP-United Left refer to Constitutional Court demanding that President 's powers to appoint caretaker cabinets be returned

"Vazrazhdane", There is Such a People and "BSP - United Left” on November 15 submitted two appeals to the Constitutional Court (CC), with identical content, demanding that President Radev's powers to appoint caretaker cabinets be returned. The court already had a sitting on the case, but did not come up with a decision, which makes it legally possible to file a new appeal.

55 MPs’ signatures were collected by "Vazrazhdnae" and the BSP- United Left demanding that the CC annul two texts of the amendments to the Constitution adopted by the 49th National Assembly.

Petar Petrov - "Vazrazhdane”: "We want the return of the previous regime, under which the President bears all responsibility for the caretaker government - not for anything else, but because you all know and the public knows that electoral crimes and fraud was a process that the caretaker government of GERB and MRF unfortunately did not fight against."

According to the petitioners, it is also legally unacceptable for people with dual citizenship to be elected as MPs but not as ministers.

Natalia Kiselova - BSP-United Left: "We have decided that since there is a contradiction between two of the provisions regarding the conditions for electing ministers and MPs, we propose to declare the possibility for people with dual citizenship to be candidates for MPs as unconstitutional."

A second complaint with the same content was filed with the CC, but this time signed by TISP and Vazrazhdane. This came after a brief consultation between the two parliamentary groups in the plenary. It was supported by 53 MPs.

Toshko Yordanov - TISP: "This, I tell you, will free to a large extent, if the CC gets together and makes a quick decision, from this pathetic plot that you are seeing in the chamber, in which a Speaker of the National Assembly cannot be elected because everyone sees themselves as a potential participant in the executive power."

Petar Petrov - "Vazrazhdane": "The parliamentary groups of the BSP and the TISP have different motives, but nevertheless the joint request should be supported, because regardless of the different legal motives expressed by each of the groups, we believe that it is right to be challenged again".

The CC has two months to rule.
