Boyko Borissov: I will propose someone else for the post of Prime Minister

Prime Minister Boyko Borissov on April 14 said he will nominate another person for the position Prime Minister and that voters have put GERB first in the elections for new Parliament held on April 4.That is why the party will take a responsible approach to the proposal to form a government.

I will propose someone else for Prime Minister with a very clear European, NATO orientation, Boyko Borissov was firm. He said this in Veliko Turnovo hours after the last weekly meeting of the current government.

It may sound immodest, but there is no one more prepared than me. It is no coincidence that we are the first political force in the recent parliamentary elections. Many people want me to be the Prime Minister, but I have always believed that united we stand strong. I will not be a candidate for Prime Minister in the new cabinet, which will be proposed by GERB. Another candidate will be nominated.

However, Borissov refused to answer a journalist's question who that candidate would be and added that he would not comment before the decision of the GERB executive council.

Asked whether the person proposed for Prime Minister would be Tomislav Donchev (currently Deputy PM), Borissov answered categorically "no" and added: no, he did not deserve it.

There will be ministers from the previous cabinet, there will be new ones. Let's wait until we get the mandate. We will take it very seriously, Borissov said.

According to the Constitution, we have one week to hold consultations, he added.

The Prime Minister firmly stated that he was not afraid of a caretaker government:

Those who ask whether we are afraid of a caretaker government are themselves afraid of democracy.

I have not lost my trust in Fandakova or in Mitko Nikolov, the Prime Minister said commenting on rumours about the prepared reshuffles of the leading positions in his party. According to him, however, an answer should be given to the question why in cities where so much has been done such as Sofia and Bourgas, GERB has not achieved the expected election results.

Earlier, Boyko Borissov started the weekly cabinet meeting saying the voters nominated GERB as winners in the April 4 elections.

We will approach the mandate for forming a government responsibly, because the Bulgarian voter definitely put us in the first place and all the attempts of the parties in the last place, with the least share of votes, to try to make it look they are first or most significant, is not true at all.

The elections were fair and transparent, Borissov said.

And those who say that we would be afraid of a caretaker government, this means for those who ask it that they are afraid of democracy, because a caretaker government has the role to conduct fair elections.

Borissov called on all parties to take a responsible approach to the constitutional procedure from now on.

When we receive the mandate as the first political force, we will treat it most responsibly. That is what our voters want. From then on, once the other parties have decided whether to support us or not, there is a constitutional course of action.

Regarding the pandemic, he said that in the past 24 hours, there are more people who have recovered than the number of newly reported Covid-19 cases in the country. He said he was sorry about the stopping of various vaccines due to global doubts.

Whether it is a trade war or not - there is someone to say, but one by one the vaccines are being flawed, and people are afraid.

This may to an extent interfere with the vaccination plan. For now, vaccination continues with Pfizer. EC prepares contracts for vaccines for 2022-2023.

The fact that the EU is preparing for such contracts means that this pandemic is not expected to pass easily and pass at all.

Borissov thanked European solidarity for the allocation of vaccines to Bulgaria.
