Floods at Bulgaria's Southern Black Sea coast: Within two days, metal bridge will be built on the main road between Tsarevo and Ahtopol
Within two days, a temporary bridge will be built on the site of the collapsed facility on the main road between Tsarevo and Ahtopol to ensure the normal travel of people from the Southern Black Sea coast. For this purpose, however, the existing bridge has to be demolished completely.
"First the existing structure has to be dismantled and after that the metal structure will be built in its place. The metal structure itself is a type of military bridge which is in different segments. The segments will be assembled here on site and craned in. Hopefully within today the whole facility will be transported here as these are large extremely heavy items and hauling heavy loads is done slowly to prevent damaging the roads. If we manage to get it here in its entirety today, the installation will start tomorrow. The ambitions are that within two to three days it will be installed and the traffic will resume," said Desislava Paunova, member of the management board of the Road Infrastructure Agency (RIA) said.
The other road connecting Tsarevo and Sinemorets is also impassable due to today's collapse of the bridge at "Nestinarka" campsite. The Ministry of Interior, RIA and the Forestry agency have organised an alternative route. However, this is a semi-dirt road and passes through a wooded area. It is about 57 km long and it takes about 2 hours to drive them if traffic is not too busy. In addition, the road is narrow, which is why traffic from Ahtopol to Tsarevo is the priority for now, and traffic in the opposite direction will be allowed later.
RIA provided equipment and materials to start the restoration of the bridge at "Nestinarka" campsite. The warning is that initially the traffic will be possible only for off-road vehicles.
Normal traffic from the Southern Black Sea coast to the interior of the country will be via the pontoon bridge that will be built.
