Police uncovers 250 kg of cannabis in Berkovitsa municipality
Following a tip-off, police officers checked an agricultural property in the mountain village of Balyuvitsa in the municipality of Berkovitsa and found a field with 109 cannabis plants, the Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Interior in Montana (North-Western Bulgaria) reported on August 3.
The plants weighed a total of 250 kilograms and were planted on an area of 590 square metres. Each plant was 160-220 centimetres tall. A modern drip irrigation system was built around them. They were reaped and burnt by the police, with samples taken beforehand.
Pre-trial proceedings under Section 354 of the Penal Code have been initiated in the case. It is being ascertained who planted and cultivated the cannabis fields.
The police department said that the cannabis field found is the first one this year, as there were several cases last year, but with smaller quantities of cannabis.
