WCC-DB PM nominee presents proposed government line-up to President
The candidate for Prime Minister nominated by “We Continue the Change-Democratic Bulgaria” coalition, Nikolai Denkov, on June 5, returned completed second mandate to form a government to President Rumen Radev. He presented the proposed structure and line-up of a government to the President.
Radev said that he would issue the decree as quickly as possible so that the members of the 49th National Assembly could vote “according to their conscience” on the proposed line-up.
On Friday, Denkov and Mariya Gabriel (GERB-UDF’s nomination for PM) announced that they had agreed on the structure and line-up of the future draft cabinet, which will be with rotating PM and will be supported by the largest parliamentary group GERB-UDF.
According to the agreement, Denkov of the second largest parliamentary group, WCC-DB, will serve as Prime Minister for the first nine months, after which GERB-UDF’s Mariya Gabriel will take over as PM in the next 9 months.
At the last moment, the Minister of Justice was replaced, and the post is expected to be filled by Democratic Bulgaria MP Atanas Slavov.
It also became clear that Assen Vassilev of WCC-DB remains the proposal for finance minister, but will not be Deputy Prime Minister. GERB-UDF and WCC-DB have a total of 132 MPs, which is enough to support the draft cabinet in plenary chamber if all vote in favour.
The Movement for Rights and Freedoms has not yet announced its decision on whether they would vote in favour of the proposed cabinet or not.
The remaining parliamentary groups have said that they will vote against.
